loss of a loved one...

i feel like ive lost a pet.
i was working on a lab report for Modern Physics when i decided i needed some music...
"unable to locate library file"
thats odd. i wonder if my Loft computer got turned off, or shut down after an update or something...
hmm... the light is on, but i dont hear as much noise as usual.
:: wiggle the mouse... hit the spacebar ::
try a hard reset...
nothing...

so. this was my play computer. not the computer i played on, that would be the one from which im posting now. but the one i played with.
it was networked... as far as i ever cared to take it. i could dial into from my phone anywhere i went. i could look at that desktop, access whatever was stored there.
i used to for holding my music and books and would pull them up from any other computer in the house... or even amanda listening to our music at work...
it ran a Ventrilo server. that was my most recent project. sure, its limited to 8 people, and therefore not really useful for raiding, but whatever.
it would have been my home theater PC if it wasn't just easier to use the xbox360. it was set up on the flat panel tv in the loft.
i used it to look up character stats and rules and such while playing dnd.
it ran as a maptools server allowing my friends to play together even tho they were many miles apart.
i broadcasted internet radio...
this machine wasnt a servant, it was a friend.
this is the one on which we watched general conference.
i adopted amanda's old computer and turned it into not only something useful, but something fun. it might have gotten thrown away. maybe given away, 'its old and slow'.
but we had good times.
im sure the drives are still good. i dont imagine that pulling the data off will be very challenging... time consuming yes. but thats not the point.
this is the machine that hosted a friend in indonesia so she could listen to pandora...
it was my project computer. he helped me learn about what i can do. we grew together.

take care Lofty. i'll miss you
